It seems like Portland’s weather was on it’s best behavior for the weekend of the One Motorcycle Show (Feb 8/9/10)- giving everyone (even fair weather riders) a chance to pull their bikes off the tenders, give ‘em a wash and ride them in to the show. Lane splitting and sharing… the debate resurfaces. This Oregon bill basically gives us the same rights as bicyclists who “filter” through traffic at slow speeds. In a nutshell it says that we may pass between two lanes of traffic or cars if the cars are going less than 10mph and the motorcyclist is going 20mph or less. Firstly, what is your prior motorcycling experience? What engine displacement / size are we talking… 250cc? A lot of it depends on your skill level and comfort level. Hannah Johnson (~5’3”) rides a Hypermotard with an exceptionally high seat height (33.3”). She literally jumps onto the bike as it takes off. For her, size has little to do with it.
