A goodbye to my friend Jessi Combs— educator, welder and fabricator, land speed record holder, motorcycle builder, TV show host, off-road racer, Queen of the Hammers, beautiful, bad ass, intelligent woman.
Motorcycle Woman Art by Gianmarco Magnani
Gianmarco Magnani (Silence TV) is a notable illustrator from Peru.
He started a graphic design project called “100 Prints” that focused on balancing his design style and his interests, which includes the classic motorcycle woman. His illustrative design is quite captivating, utilizing crisp and detailed line work with simplistic shading and blocky typography. A main influence in his style, he says, were Katsuhiro Ôtomo’s sketches of Kaneda’s motorcycle from the movie Akira.
His work not only includes stoic motoladies, but incredibly detailed and accurate portrayals of vintage motorcycles.
Gianmarco, who simply goes by “M” for short, said in his Pushing Pixels interview, that the 80s shaped many of his tastes. “I was around eight years old, and we didn’t have Internet, computers, phones or even 150 channels on the TV. Communication was very limited, but I had an opportunity to be involved with things that came from Japan. It was really hard to come by things like that in those days, and for me they were the first design references. A good friend of mine who traveled from time to time to Japan gave me some VHS tapes with TV shows from Tokyo, a lot of Japanese magazines and some action figures as well. I couldn’t understand anything of what I was seeing, but all those images, icons, packagings, booklets and texts were very attractive to my eye.”
Each of his art works are available to purchase in Giclée prints on natural white, matte, ultra smooth, 100% cotton rag, acid and lignin free archival paper using Epson K3 archival inks. They’ll last a lifetime and beyond. Visit the Society6 website to check out his shop.
