Leslie Porterfield holds land speed records in several classes. She’s the worlds fastest woman on two wheels, hitting an average of 232 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats. Waldo Stakes, a California contractor, designed a rocket car that supposedly could hit 2,000 mph. The new 2012 Kawasaki ZZR1400… is supposedly the fastest production bike [off the line] in the world. “More torque at all RPM” and “significantly more power in the mid-high RPM range”. A crowd comes to the rescue of a motorcyclist trapped under a 4000lb burning car. This is the kind of thing our world needs. (Not the coppers standing around pointing at things, but actual citizens helping citizens.) The motorcyclist underwent surgery on Monday and is currently stable. Many of you know that my coworker Erica was injured while riding her Ducati last month. The damage is extensive, the road to recovery is long. The amount of support from the motorcycling community has been incredible. Are you excited for the 2012 Ducati 1199? I sure am. Extended swing arm, new engine positioning, no more trellis frame- these are just a few of the changes Ducati is throwin’ down this time around. A 55 year old motorcyclist from Parish, New York, went on a ride Sunday organized by the Onondaga chapter of American Bikers Aimed Toward Education (ABATE) during which he sustained head trauma and died. The ironic part of this tragedy is that he was protesting wearing a state-required helmet. A helmet that would have saved his life. I am a proponent of proper gear.
