Some motorcycle wisdom, “Of all the paths you take in life, make sure a few of them are dirt.”

The last of my Canada adventure riding the Explorers’ Edge… Top to bottom, left to right. We got rained out pretty hard at the end of the trip, torrential downpour on the freeway. My rain pants turned out to be a little too short (testing on the road, sometimes stupid of me) and despite being snapped tight around the outside of my boots, failed and wicked water to my pants and into my boots. Riding with about an inch of water kind of sucked, but we headed to the hotel and got… Continue Reading »

After lunch yesterday Virgil Knapp (photographer) and Adam Wood (videographer) stashed themselves in the back of the minivan and took some photo and video (which turned out amazing, you’ll see) before we made our way to the amazingly awesome Woodland Echoes Resort. A cabin in the woods on the lake, with a jacuzzi, and a fish fry in the hall! What motorcycle traveller could ask for more!? Maybe life size chess? They have that too. Also, a baby dragonfly graced my motorcycle, and I took a power nap laying on it.

Super short iphone capture of the footage Adam Wood’s camera yesterday- he was shooting video some of today for this trip. He and Mike Jacobs (of Ontario Moto Roads) discuss in the backgroundhow great his video is (well, that’s what they say more or less.) PS. Probably don’t have the volume up on your device when you watch this.  The first half of our adventure today was pretty wet, though we only got actively rained on for maybe 30 minutes which isn’t too bad. Two BMWs out front, followed by two Harleys. … Continue Reading »

A few photos from my Canada trip so far (left to right, top to bottom)- arrived last night and met up with Rod (posted to FB I’d be in Toronto and this chap joined me) for a drink. Went to the Deeley Canada HD manufacturer warehouse to pick some stuff up for the boys who were riding Harleys. Drove out to Gravenhurst and met up with the bikes, met my BMW f650GS… more than stoked to be riding it.  Rode HWY 141 and ended in Huntsville.

Last week when I stopped through San Francisco I walked about a mile over to SF Moto (website) to say hi to the crew, lo and behold the Folsom Street Fair was going on. They had set up this little moto photo booth so we snapped a pic, looks were given and received… ‘twas interesting. SF, you crazy.

Backflipping A 1200cc Harley… Did He Land It?

Chances of backflipping a Harley Davidson motorcycle of stock variety (and landing it for that matter) is a tall order.  Back in 2008, Chuck Carothers went for it with his 1200cc Harley Davidson Sportster at the FMX Gladiator Games.  Does he land it? Watch and see for yourself.  [ Source: America Loves Horsepower ]

Flying out of Portland tomorrow and into Toronto, Canada for the 2013 Riding the Edge Press trip. Five of us are riding off in Ontario, doing 1000 miles in five days. It may get down to 37 degrees Fahrenheit (3 degrees Celsius) and should be raining the whole time.  I’m from Portland so rain ain’t no thang- this will be a blast! To get an idea of where I’ll be, and things I’ll see… read about the Explorers’ Edge and hit this video (below). [ Links: RideTheEdge.ca | tagged Road Trip ]

The Bias of the NYC SUV Road Rage Incident… AGAIN

Guys, this is what I’m talking about. Nothing about the NYC incident where the Range Rover gets surrounded after a traffic collision then runs over a rider and three motorcycles was okay. Nothing. But what is absolutely abhorrent is the fact that nearly every “big media” news article I read about it said the rider who got ran over had a “broken leg”. Only one I saw alluded to more injuries.  That rider is in a coma, on a breathing machine because his lungs were crushed. I just want to remind everyone… Continue Reading »
