First Look: 2015 Indian Scout
The 2015 Indian Scout motorcycle was leaked a la reddit and the LA Times- unfortunately for the Polaris owned Indian Motorcycle company, there’s no getting that cat back into the bag. While they removed the original post, google had already cached the prematurely posted news for the rest of the world to oggle at.
The Rumoured 2015 Indian Scout Motorcycle
Said to be a 1133cc liquid-cooled, 100 horsepower motorbike with a base model MSRP at $10,999.
Historically speaking this is a big reintroduction- the Indian Scout is a very prominent motorcycle in the timeline of American Motorcycling and production. In the 1920s it was incredibly popular, pulling the Indian Motorcycle company upwards with it’s sales, for it’s agility and responsiveness. Released in 1920, the Scout motorcycle was equipped with a 600cc v-twin engine. It was a much more well rounded bike than it’s competitors at the time.
Power, Swiftness, Stamina, Economy… all the things we like in a motorcycle
But here’s the real question- does this new Indian Scout live up to the model’s legend, or will it be just another big cruiser? It’s hard to tell through the layers of extra stuff on most motorcycles of modern day what the real soul has to say. I guess we’ll have wait for specs and see how it rides, eh?
Post Script: Now that the 2015 Indian Scout is officially released, the LA times have re-published their article with the comment from the manufacturer, “It has a smaller stance, the company says, specifically to attract smaller riders, female riders, or first-time riders who might be intimidated by a full-size Indian — much as competitor, and segment leader, Harley-Davidson has done with its Sportster and new Street 500 and Street 750 bikes.”

Looks like the party is over for ‘The Motor Company.’
I want to have one directly 2015 in Germany for this cool prices it is fantastic!
I’m a big fan of their thunderstroke engine. Was enthralled by the chiefs on the demo rides. This scout does none of what those air-cooled bikes do for me. Maybe the hp and torque will make up for it, but it has the profile of a Japanese sky-revver twice over, and it’s a belt drive. It’s not much of a sporty bike, and it doesn’t have the looks. It doesn’t have a dedicated tach, and that micro-headlight looks just as wrong on the scout as on the Harley. I’m bummed because I was gearing up to swap my Bonnie for it (though I’m starting to outgrow the standard and drift towards sport bikes).
I knew this thing was going to suck. So many people were hoping it was going to be something along the lines of a Street Triple. But no, of course not. It’s just another Sportster competitor. No idea why they’d give it so much power, it’s clearly not built to make use of that 100 hp. Low grade suspension and brakes + 100 hp is not a good combo.
What are you bitching about? There’s still the full cruiser lineup. Some of us don’t want to throw around an 800 pound bike.
I think you may have misunderstood me. There were a lot of people hoping that Indian would go the performance route, and this thing is going to be a massive letdown to them. It’s just another Sportster competitor.
Sorry if I came across harsh. But this bike is kind of what I was looking for. I don’t understand what you are hoping for. Did you want an Indian version of a Buell? If that’s the case I have no doubt someone, perhaps Buell, will incorporate the engine into a performance package. Polaris IMHO is the best thing to happen to Indian since the company folded.
I seriously doubt Buell is going to be doing anything with this engine, given that he has his own line of performance bikes funded through Hero Corp. I really don’t see the correlation between the Scout of yesteryear and this one. This bike is not going to be the nimble-handling rocket that the Scout was for its time.
Wow, what a beauty, amazing homage combined with a nice lunge into the present and future. 100 horses as well from 1133 CCs.
Now, that’s a great looking bike.
