Hey there! I really enjoy your blog. I am a fellow female Portlander and recently bought a bike (a beautiful ’76 Honda CB500T!). I was wondering if you knew any female mechanics out there that you could recommend. I was hoping to find a motorcycle mama to take care of my baby. I thought you’d be in the know. First, I want to just giggle at “fellow female” because it is amusingly oxymoronic. And yet it totally makes sense! And secondly, CONGRATULATIONS! I resist typing an excessive amount of exclamation points but it’s worth a few more… !!!!! !! ! Is it the orange ‘76 CB that Thor from See See Cycles was selling? If so, I am j-j-j-jealous! Hey Denton! Are you referring to this image of the three wonderful Ducati moto ladies? The bikes are actually all three sport classics, the one on the left is a Paul Smart. The photo was taken in 2008 outside MotoCorsa (my work). It features “the girls of MotoCorsa” at the time. Kat now works at Rev’It! in Philadelphia, and Erica still works here at MC. Some extra information for the motorcycle question: The MT350 is a good motorcycle, but it was produced in limited numbers, and has a huge following. Not only is it an expensive bike, but parts are near unobtainable. Between the three, it’s comes down to the R71 or Speed Triple. The choice is based on one question: How comfortable are you working on a bike? All bikes are finicky at times, and older bikes more so. There’s a constant ever growing, ever changing list of repairs and procedures and problems. And they can be sadistic; typically choosing the point furthest from a garage or parts store to break down, and often the most expensive parts break repeatedly. Of course, it will run like a dream in front of a mechanic. If you’re not afraid to pick up a wrench a repair manual, and head into unknown motoring territory: Buy the BMW. If you’re not comfortable with the above: Buy the triple The Speed Triple is newer, meaning less work between rides. Both look cool, and both from my understanding, are incredible rides.

There are so many great pictures (and movies) with women on bikes in fantastic looking leather catsuits, but how come I can only find leather tracksuits with knee pucks and Power Ranger styling? Are there really no sexy yet functional catsuits on the market?

What?! You don’t want to look like the pink power ranger? Kidding. This is a problem women often find in the motorcycle industry- the functional stuff is usually hideous. And that doesn’t even mean it will fit right. They do exist, though. Leslie Porterfield (the fastest woman in the world) has a rather nice race suit. What I need to know is, how functional are you looking for?
