Why We Ride Documentary: Coming Soon

It took me a while to sit down and watch this trailer, despite multiple people sending it to me. Why? I’m not sure. Perhaps because I felt capturing “why we ride” in a trailer is impossible, and in a full length film difficult yet. But also because I felt that I needed to devote a minute of my undivided attention to the footage, and forcing myself to do that is sometimes difficult these days.  I finally pressed play and have to admit- I got goosebumps, there may have been some tears. They… Continue Reading »

The Woman Behind the Women’s Moto Exhibit

My friends, I have featured Lanakila MacNaughton’s photography from her project the Women’s Moto Exhibit many many times, but this time you get to see the woman behind the lens. This look behind the scenes literally gave me goosebumps- Austin Will perfectly captured the essence of art, artist, and subjects. I got chills and they’re multiplyin’! “I’m shooting medium format… film on Hassleblad. I’m manually focusing on a moving at 40 or 50 miles an hour.” For those of you who haven’t fiddled with this style photography (or even much at all… Continue Reading »

Film: Out of Nothing

The magic of Bonneville Salt Flats and land speed racing there is mentioned often around these parts. During my 2012 trip to the BUB speed trials and Bonneville, I had the good fortune to meet a very talented photographer and videographer, Chad DeRosa. He and I both had the same mission- capture the magic of the salt flats and Sodium Distortion race team. Our end vision however was very different- he was filming for “Out of Nothing,” an epic tale of four men forging land speed records.  While I bounced around the… Continue Reading »

The Build Film by Instrument

A really keen design company here in Portland released an interactive video about some prominent Portland motorcycle builders. Why should you care? Well, besides that it’s always a treat to hear what inspires other motorcyclists… the bad ass imagery comes to mind. “Why’d you build it if you aren’t going to ride it?” – Casey Him  Some screenshots and favorite quotes below.  ‘Kind of the funnest part about trips is breaking down. You kind of meet the best people when that happens because shitty people don’t stop to help you.” – James Crowe… Continue Reading »
