Awesome submission from Haley MacKenzie- My friend Chad took this photo of me on my first big ride through Mount Laguna and Sunset Highway. A wildfire had just started the morning we left on our ride, and by the time we arrived clouds of smoke were blotting out the sun. We were the last ones on the road before the fire fighters closed the highway. Probably the best day of my life. Photo credit to Chad Nelson.

Took a 2003 Suzuki GSXR 600 out on a 165mi run today with Chris on his Ducati 848evo- went to the Berry Patch in Westport off Highway 30. They have delicious pie, and their food wasn’t half bad either. I can say first hand the cod is very fresh!  This run is usually called the Clatskanie ride- we went a little further, and took a fun detour on Apiary on the way back, too. The roads are mostly great, with perfect camber and good sight distance… just a few rough spots toward… Continue Reading »

Can you build a chopper in under a month with under a thousand dollars? This is the question presented by the Dirtbag Challenge- an annual motorcycle build-off, ride, and party.  In 2009 a team comprised only of women entered and won one of the contest awards. Paolo Asuncion sent me a note about the Dirtbag Documentary he is currently editing- The team of women includes the owner of a motorcycle repair shop (the ONLY woman owned shop around these parts, the president of the SF Motorcycle Club (first woman president), a racer,… Continue Reading »

Talk about motorcycle adventure- Tina Walker and her man are wandering whichever way the wind may take them… no schedule. Her photos were sent along with this info about their road trip- My hubs and I are on our Road Pickle Motorcycle Bohemia, a 6-month motorcycle trip around the U.S. We left San Diego April 25, 2013 and are now in Tulsa, OK, having been on the road 7 weeks. Only just learning to ride this year, I’m crossing the country on my Kawasaki Ninja 500, Katie Scarlet.  We are homeless wanderers… Continue Reading »

Jumpin’ on the Throwback Thursday bandwagon- photos from the first time I rode a liter (litre for your Europeans) bike, and the first time on a Ducati sport bike. Did I have fun, you wonder? Well when I brought the bike back, not realizing I scrubbed those ‘chicken strips’ down quite a bit, the owner first gave me wide eyes followed by a slight scowl.  No one likes someone else riding their bike harder than they do- he told me to “go have fun and ride it fast”… so I did. My… Continue Reading »

Stunning capture of New Zealand flat track back in the day, the giant metal sole on the riders boot in clear view. Can you imagine hauling ass over dirt into a corner at full speed with only rear brake and a metal soled boot to save you? (claspgarage.com) Sounds fun… [ see more Historical images | offroad ]
